Critiques of Connie Clark’s Performing Lectures...

From the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County, NC:
   [program: on Sarah Bernhardt]

"Thursday night's program was wonderful!  Your portrayal of Sarah Bernhardt was such a delight to watch, to experience.  It is very apparent that you have put much research and work into the development of 'Sarah'.
I sat riveted as you brought Sarah's stories to life for us, from the grand introduction to the heart-wrenching tale of the currents she waded through in an  effort to support the ones she loved.  Some comments on the response sheets the audience was given glowed with "brought Sarah alive","very talented actress," "I would like to see the [full-length] play."

From the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County, NC:
[program: Emily Dickinson #1, on her life]

"Connie Clark's presentation of Emily Dickinson took our public programs to a higher level.  The insight, the sensitivity and the power of it brought us an understanding far exceeding our expectations.  We were at times transported to another time and place as we witnessed "Emily" explaining her needs and feelings.  The audience was generous in their praise of this outstanding performance."
--  Emily McCormick, Adult Services Librarian

From the North Carolina Poetry Society's 70th anniversary gathering:
[program: "Poetic Voices of North Carolina"]

"Watching Connie Clark perform poetry is like watching Baryshnikov.  With her interpretation, words dance, tiptoe, twirl , leap the length of human experience.  Choosing from a variety of North Carolina poetry, Clark can transform mood in an instant from humor to heartbreak.  She shows us all how poetry should be read."
-- poet Sally Buckner, Editor of Word & Witness: 100 Years of North Carolina Poetry

From the Voorheesville Public Library, Voorheesville, NY:
[program: Emily Dickinson #2, on her poems]

[Following a day spent performing and teaching as Dickinson at the local high school]  "Later in the evening, I was privileged to view Ms. Clark's performance before an adult audience in the village library.  Giving free rein to her emotions for this select group, she presented a stellar program.  We in the audience were spellbound.  When she laughed, we laughed.  When she cried, we cried."
--  Vasiliki Volkwein, English Department Head

From the Currituck County Library, Barco, NC:
[program: "So I Write Poets - All"]

"It was wonderful!  And I wish the words on this page could puncture the air just as your words did last Monday evening!  You really brought the poets to life, and we have had a wonderful "after response" from those who were fortunate enough to have heard you!  Thank you again, Connie, for such a wonderful performance.  It certainly lived up to (and exceeded!) our expectations!  We simply could not have asked for better -- only for more.
 --  Jane C. Marshall, Librarian
